  • Creative Mindfulness | St. Louis, MO |Heather Frost Counseling

At Heather Frost Counseling, we incorporate Mindfulness as a modality into every session as needed. This is meant to rejuvenate your mind and body from anxiety. We will practice breathwork and grounding to calm our nervous system, we will lean into yoga stretches and muscle relaxation to become more in tuned with our body, and we will incorporate painting to further explore our creative energy. Keep a Curious Mind Have you ever noticed your brain jumping from one thing to the next like a monkey exploring the jungle? I call it "monkey brain". Our brains are incredibly busy creating several movies for a single story. A story we play over and over in our minds about events that have occured in a single day! We then create "what if scenarios" which then lead to anxiety and even panic. Mindfulness is a practice that asks your monkey brain to slow down, take a deep breath, and just be. It allows for curiosity that seems to have left us in the dust since childhood. To explore being present while setting your brain free from high activity, is an artform in and of itself. *Mindfulness is incorporated into each counseling session on an as needed / requested basis What does it look like to practice mindfulness? We will use a collaborative tool box that includes stretching, breath control and awareness, body scanning, and visualization. We will practice the artform of grounding to gain control of our anxiety as well as muscle relaxation to better appreciate the true feeling of calmness. At times painting will be incorporated as a meditative and therapeutic exercise to ignite creative exploration. What are the benefits of mindfulness and what is it?? Mindfulness is simply a state of awareness, but I like to think of it as holding ourselves accountable to what is allowed in our lives. Benefits include: Reduced Rumination - studies have shown repetitive thoughts of worry or concern are linked to high anxiety and depression. Reduced Anxiety - Studies have shown that mindfulness shifts people's ability to use emotion regulation strategies in a way that enables emotion selectively with altered brain function. Boosts Working Memory - increased ability to cognitively store small amounts of information for longer periods of time. Example: listening to a sequence of events in a story while understanding what the story means. Increases Focus - higher attention spans and cognitive flexibility. Less Emotional Reactivity - engage less emotionally and more with cognition. • Mom Support | Therapy for Mothers| St. Louis, MO | Heather Frost Counseling

If you are a mother, chances are you may need someone to talk to! Mom Talk is support for the mamas! Whether you are an empty nester, or need support outside of your inner circle, as parenting is hard work...Unwind and enjoy this time for you. Mom Talk Parenting is not for the weary…or is it? As parents, we welcome these perfect little beings into the world with hope, fear, and more love than we thought we could ever feel for another human being. We then make it through the sleepless nights, diaper changes, feedings (pat on the back), and endless hours of just staring into this perfect little face you can’t believe is all yours. Next come the toddler years of negotiations, independence, and meltdowns (whew!), and we are beginning to see the person they are slowly becoming with each day that passes by. We find joy in these moments amongst the challenges because it is the neatest thing you could ever do…to witness a child’s first smile, first laugh, first step, first taste of sweet potatoes, and then to be the ones they need more than anyone else in the world to pick them up when they fall. As they grow up, their highs become your highs, and their lows become your lows. It’s like whatever they feel, you feel 1000 times more, for better or for worse. Sometimes, the swing of emotions become a weight that we can’t seem to shake off. Now your child is facing the teen years with phones (AH!) and in a world that just seems different than when we were growing up. I guess every generation goes through this at some point, but for us in 2024, we mean it…the world is a different place and we need help! How are we supposed to navigate our child’s social life, grades, the internet, sports, college, self-esteem, mental health, attitude (yes attitude), AND stay sane?! Mom Talk is your hour, judgment free with someone who is able to meet you where you are at. Whether you are a new, expectant, or seasoned mama...our time together is meant to recapture your self-love, feel empowered, and go home refreshed for the challenges to come with tools and resources in hand. • What to Expect from Therapy at Heather Frost Counseling

Discover what to expect at our counseling professional's practice. From cognitive behavioral therapy to art journaling, empower yourself and your child in therapy. What to Expect in Therapy Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Heather Frost Counseling In session, we will learn about topics such as anger as a secondary emotion or how our nervous system communicates with our brain in episodes of fight or flight, and how this can be both useful and debilitating in life. In addition, the evidence based modality named The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) technique is incorporated to then study how our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all interrelated. 314-307-5755 itsyourtimetherapy@proton.me Therapy with Art Heather Frost Counseling Then there are times when it's too hard to find the words to express how we feel. A simple conversation back and forth just doesn't cut it. In therapy, your child will get to use paint and other various forms of art to not only express the issue at hand, but have some fun while doing it. Art has scientific evidence to raise levels of serotonin in the body. Anxiety and depression will begin to decrease and the root of the problem isn't so scary to find. 314-307-5755 itsyourtimetherapy@proton.me Journaling In-Session Heather Frost Counseling There's also something to be said about needing a break... a break from all the noise, constant thoughts, and jumbled feelings. We will then journal in session. Writing has the ability to turn our thoughts into actual stories with real details. It can be extremely useful at times and even calming. 314-307-5755 itsyourtimetherapy@proton.me Learning Normalizes & Empowers Heather Frost Counseling Another element of your child's therapy session will include psychoeducation. We will learn about topics such procrastination & time management, putting systems into place to boost productivity. We will improve self-esteem, focus ability, and improve communication skills. 314-307-5755 itsyourtimetherapy@proton.me Parent Involvement Parent involvement is welcomed and encouraged at the child's discretion. At a minimum, I keep the parent up to date on topics discussed while h onoring confidentiality. This allows for further support outside of our sessions. I also like to do a monthly check-in with parents while honoring confidentiality of my client and at their discretion. The more a child is willing to bring the parent to session when needed, the deeper the healing process tends to be for both parties. Let's Connect
