From Struggles to Strength: Guiding Teens to Thrive

Mom Talk
Parenting is not for the weary…or is it? As parents, we welcome these perfect little beings into the world with hope, fear, and more love than we thought we could ever feel for another human being. We then make it through the sleepless nights, diaper changes, feedings (pat on the back), and endless hours of just staring into this perfect little face you can’t believe is all yours. Next come the toddler years of negotiations, independence, and meltdowns (whew!), and we are beginning to see the person they are slowly becoming with each day that passes by. We find joy in these moments amongst the challenges because it is the neatest thing you could ever do…to witness a child’s first smile, first laugh, first step, first taste of sweet potatoes, and then to be the ones they need more than anyone else in the world to pick them up when they fall. As they grow up, their highs become your highs, and their lows become your lows. It’s like whatever they feel, you feel 1000 times more, for better or for worse. Sometimes, the swing of emotions become a weight that we can’t seem to shake off. Now your child is facing the teen years with phones (AH!) and in a world that just seems different than when we were growing up. I guess every generation goes through this at some point, but for us in 2024, we mean it…the world is a different place and we need help! How are we supposed to navigate our child’s social life, grades, the internet, sports, college, self-esteem, mental health, attitude (yes attitude), AND stay sane?!
